4 Important tips for choosing the right welding wire

Welding wire is a thin metallic rod which upon ignition generates a heated arc which can be used to fuse metal pieces together. In any welded material, welding wire plays the most important role as it determines strength of the finished product. It is possible to combine different alloys and metals however, ultimately strength depends on the welding wire. Different welding wires may be used depending on the metal and job, so the following points should be considered while selecting welding wire.
  1. Identify metals : The most common metal used in MIG welding are carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium. These metals used for welding are called base metals and the influence the required composition and thickness of welding wire.
  2. Match wires : The welding wire is ideally the same metal as the metal to be welded. For instance, carbon steel wire should be used for carbon steel material, stainless steel welding wire should be used for welding stainless steel.
  3. Thickness : Thickness required for the welding wire should be determined from thickness of the base metal. Although there is a range to choose for welding materials with specific diameters, referring to wire thickness charts provided on wire product packaging can help a great deal to choose the right welding wire. Range helps eliminate the need to know exact gauge of the plates being welded.
  4. Using mixed metals is alright : In some cases the welding wires may not be made of pure metal and comes with additional elements like manganese, silicon and titanium. Consumers should know that mixing of metals is perfectly fine and sometimes aid with strength, stability, less porosity and reduced tendency for oxidation. So MIG wires do include wires with additional elements than the metal.
Stainless steel welding wire manufacturers in India manufactures a great deal of welding wires in the area of TIG, MIG, SAW and even more. It is important to note that no two welding operations are the same. So the most productive way of getting job done would be by making sure the right stainless steel wire is chosen for the job.
