7 Different Types Of Stainless Steel Wires

Stainless steel is a versatile material and has slow degradation process. That is why it's being used in number of items we see in day to day life. Steel wires also has number of applications in commercial, industrial and military equipment. However, these wires being made of the same composition could not be applicable for all the uses. Thus, it's needed to design steel wires with different levels of strength, elasticity and thickness for different purposes. Given below are the 7 different types of stainless steel wires: -
1. Music wire- This type of wire gets its name from its use as piano strings. It is considered to be the work horse of steel wires. It is high in carbon content which makes its strong and durable. Also, this type is known for its use in high level of stress and repeated loads. It is used in springs and surgical equipment too.

2. Oil tempered wire- This wire can also be used in springs, such as springs in garage doors. It's structured being similar to the music wire, though this wire is usually drawn to thicker diameters, then heated and “quenched” with oil to make it both strong and flexible.

3. Broom wire- This wire is usually strong and is high in carbon content. It's commonly used in brushes of street cleaners and  galvanized or PVC coated to endure repeated friction.

4. Duct wire- These are flexible coated wire and are used for providing structure and flexibility. Mostly used in heating and air ducts as they have to curve around the corners retaining the shape.

5. Chrome silicon wire- It's an alloy steel wire which is exceptionally strong and is able to withstand shocks along with high impact loads that a typical wire cannot withstand. It is used in recoil springs in guns or in high performance vehicles.

6. Low carbon steel wire- For applications where wire is needed to be bend easily, then low carbon wires are preferred as high carbon content makes the wires strong. These wires are used in low stress strings or coat hangers.

7. Hard drawn wire- These wires are simply made by drawing the steel wires to a certain diameter. They cannot withstand high amount of stress but are good all around wires for bending into wire forms or springs. It is frequently used in products like metal baskets, shopping carts, safety pins, and some auto parts.

Stainless Steel Wires have ample of applications, either it be a household appliance or some huge machine in industry. These durable wires which comes in variety, are low maintenance and does not corrode easily. Though, it should be checked that their quality is appropriate for it to last longer. There are stainless steel wire manufacturers in India who supply excellent quality wires. Such stainless steel wire manufacturers leads their production on large scale, providing quality and variety of steel wires.
